Holidays in Cornwall have always had a nostalgic rosy glow about them...beaches, sandcastles and family fun...and a holiday in Mevagissey is no exception. It is still a traditional working Cornish fishing village with the busy harbour being the very heart of the village. A long and colourful history of smuggling and boat building (since 1745) all adds to its Cornish charm. Very narrow lanes are filled with art galleries, gift shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs. Once the centre for pilchard fishing, Mevagissey was the first to have electric street lighting powered by pilchard oil and was the birth place of Pears Soap.
